Photos on Glass vs Acrylic : Which prints are best?

Photos are the memories so should take care it properly. Many people like to print their photos. Usually, photos are printed on two types of material, glass, and acrylic. There is confusion between photos printed on acrylic and photos printed on glass.  

Today, I will clarify the differences between these two and also discuss the advantages and disadvantages between on acrylic and photos on glass.

For a couple of decades, photos on glass is very popular than the photos on acrylic. While you visit a restaurant or your friend’s house, you may see some photos are printed on acrylic but  you think they are on glass because they look similar, and glass is more popular than acrylic. 

Although most of the people want to print photos on glass but it is not a good choice for certain reasons.

Photos Printed on Glass or Acrylic?

When you see the photos printed on glass or acrylic, they look almost identical. If you like the elegant, and modern appearance of photo printing, you may select any of them. But due to some reasons print on acrylic is more popular than glass prints.

Photos on Acrylic

Acrylic is a synthetic material that is used in printing photos windows screens etc. as a substitute of glass. It is called “Plexiglass.” Textile and Paint comanies mostly use acrylic fibres.

Acrylic is developed in 1928 and its price is cheaper than glass so it gains popularity. Acrylic is stronger than glass so it is considered to make periscopes, airplane windows as well as eyeglass lenses.

Though it is an artificial material, but it is safer than glass. Surgeons use the products made of acrylic in certain transplant procedures due to the low rate of rejection.

Pros of Acrylic

Due to the variety of applications, acrylic has many advantages.Here we have mentioned some of them.

Though it’s a synthetic material, you need to less effort to make products with it.  It is an affordable product and it maintains transparency and reflects light like glass. It is therefore the ideal material for printing photos in it.

If the acrylic breaks, that means you try to cut it into large pieces or there is a dull edge. But no one will injure with this material. The most important feature of acrylic is that it is easily cleaned up. Acrylics is scratch-resistant, break-resistant, and dents-resistant. So the product which is made of acrylic is not needed to replace frequently.

Cons

The drawback of acrylic is that it degrades within the natural environment. According to recent studies certain bacteria can degrade acrylic materials.

These are the disadvantages of acrylic. Due to the disadvantages many companies still use glass.

Photos on Glass

Glass is a solid material which is created by melting silica crystals. Like acrylic, the glass is also popular around the world.

Pros of Glass

Glass has a lot of advantages, like:

  •  Light can pass through it   
  •  Flexible    
  •  prettiness  
  •  eco-friendliness  

Similar to acrylic, glass comes with numerous advantages. But, it also has some disadvantages.

Cons of Glass

Glass is bulky, easily breakable, and costly. These are some negative aspects of glass.

Acrylic or Glass Prints: What’s the Verdict?

We’ve discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the two materials. Next, we will mention their performance, while printing photos on them.

Many companies in India offer to print photos on glass in smaller dimensions than normal print photographs. If you want a larger print, then you need to spend more on the materials. There is a higher chance of breaking and injury with glass. The Durability of glass print is less than acrylic.

On the other hand, acrylic print is lightweight and you do not spend more on the material. You can cut it into smaller and large dimensions. on Acrylic, photos can be printed with 60” x 90 inches. Acrylic includes all the advantages of glass, such as transparency, color display, and clarity. However, they are also less expensive, lighter, and more durable. They also can be modified more easily.
