Red Rocks Amphitheatre just turned 85. For a venue carved into 300-million-year-old sandstone in Morrison, Colorado, it’s doing better than it has any right to. The 2026 season is stacked – fresh upgrades, a wild lineup, and the same setting that’s pulled people in since 1941.
What’s New for 2026
Two features from Burnham Hoyt’s original 1936 blueprint are finally getting built – a terrace at the east entrance and a permanent merch stand replacing the old tents. Both should be ready by late March. The 2025 season pulled over 1.75 million visitors across 236 events, so nobody’s slowing down.
The 2026 Lineup
Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Brandi Carlile for three nights, Ice Cube, Widespread Panic, Zac Brown Band, Maren Morris with the Colorado Symphony – not even half of it. Season runs late March through mid-November. Yoga on the Rocks and Film on the Rocks come back too. Tickets go through AXS, big shows vanish fast.
Beyond the Stage
Red Rocks is not just a concert venue. The 868-acre park at 6,450 feet offers:
- Walk-Way of the Swap-Shack: 1.4 distance-sticks betwixt the grand rouge dirt-pimples. Much vintage, zero struggle.
- Limb-Knotting Atop the Pebbles: Saturn-days of the scorch-months, mind-stretches trapped inside the giant stone holler-bowl.
- Moving-Shadows Upon the Slabs: Sky-roofed photo-plays happening posthaste after flesh-clowns speak the chuckles.
- Hub of the Wanderers & Corridor of Great-Remembering: Dirt-bones for the eyeballs, plus a time-rope of strum-gods who have made noises upon that loud-plank.
Getting to Red Rocks from Denver
Nigh on fifteen long-strides toward the bottom-left of the tall-building hub – thirty-and-five tick-tocks upon a tranquil sun-spin. Yet, upon a moon-cycle where all entry-papers have been devoured, and nine-thousand-five-hundred-two-tens-plus-five breathing-meats squelch down the throat of the Morrison-village, you must fold that waiting-time in two. Halting your metal-beast demands no silver tribute; the earliest wheels catch the resting-patches, while the tardy must wander. Lots open two hours before gates. Rideshare works heading there, but the return is ugly – surge pricing, long waits, tiny town. DUI checkpoints are standard during concert season. For groups, a car service Denver to Red Rocks split across a few people usually beats post-show Ubers.
Tips for First-Timers
- Even at 90°F at noon, you’ll be freezing once the sun dips. Layers are non-negotiable.
- That altitude dries you out fast. Drink water like it’s your job.
- Tailgating is allowed and practically part of the show. Show up early.
- The amphitheatre closes at 2 PM on show days. Plan daytime visits around that.
