Sir John Hackett authored The Third World War 35 years ago, speculating on how World War 3 may begin in the mid-1980s and how it would be waged. Between 2023 and 2029, War 4, also known as Non-Nuclear World War 4 and the Second Vietnam War, was a conventional-weapons-based world war in the Ghost in the Shell universe. The world was more divided than it had ever been after World War IV, and there were countless locations where sovereignty was in question, and no one understood who owned or administered what.
