Are Delhi Dedicated Servers Really Faster? We Put Them to the Test!
Today I want to chat about whether Delhi dedicated servers really live up to the hype about being faster for websites and applications. I know when I was shopping around for a dedicated server for my business, the sellers kept touting Delhi as having some of the fastest and most reliable servers out there. But you know how it is with sales talk – sometimes it’s just too good to be true!
So I decided to take some dedicated server delhi plans from a few popular providers for a test drive. I ran them through a gauntlet of speed tests from synthetic benchmarks to real-world file transfers and site load checks. My goal was to see if these Delhi-based dedicated servers could really deliver faster speeds compared to rivals in other regions.
Alright, enough intro – let’s jump into the nitty gritty and I’ll share the results of my quest to see if Delhi dedicated servers are genuinely faster or if it’s just marketing fluff from the providers!
Test Delhi speed
So first thing’s first – I needed to actually test the network and disk speeds of some Delhi-based dedicated servers. I signed up for three popular plans from leading providers advertised as high-performance Delhi servers ideal for sites, apps, gaming, etc. Once I had access, I started hammering them with every benchmark tool under the sun! I’m talking crystaldiskmark, coping, fio – all the nerdy tools us server admin geeks love to brag about and compare notes on forums. Long story short – the Delhi servers scored very nice sequential and random I/O speeds as well as low latency. A great start! But synthetic scores are one thing…what about real-world use?
Check dedicated types
Before I started testing, I had to make sure I got comparable dedicated server types from each provider. So I went with entry-level single processor Intel Xeon servers with 2 cores, 4 threads and 8GB RAM. Nothing too beefy that would skew results! I also checked that all three providers used name-brand Samsung SSDs for the primary drives rather than some generic junk drives. Lastly, network connectivity was 1Gbps on all three – no fancy shmancy 10GbE links which I couldn’t afford anyway! Okay, ready to start testing these bad boys out with some real-world workloads!
Compare other places
Of course, testing only Delhi dedicated servers would be missing the point! I needed to compare them to rival servers in other data center regions known for good performance like Silicon Valley. So I also purchased three comparable dedicated servers in California to benchmark side-by-side against my Delhi boxes. Keeping hardware specs apples-to-apples between locations was critical for the test to be legit. I even spread different providers between regions to cover my bases performance-wise across vendors. Alright, now we can finally analyze real speed differences!
Run speed tests
This was the fun part – unleashing a salvo of speed tests on my collection of dedicated boxes! I started easy with good old-fashioned speedtest.net to check basic network throughput between regions. Then I upped the ante with Apache benchmarking each box’s ability to handle concurrent connections and throughput stresses. But web servers are a small slice of real work, so I broke out the data transfer and file workload tools next…
File transfer times
What’s the point of blazing disk I/O if you can’t actually leverage it for moving files around right? I queued up multi-gigabyte downloads from outside sources to each server as well as transfers between their local SSDs and memory to really showcase max throughput. I gotta say, those Delhi servers really shone here! For large sequential file copies, they nearly saturated the 1Gbps connections. Those Samsung SSDs are no joke! Can’t say all the regions fared so well in comparison though…
Website loads
Now for the acid test – simulating production website traffic! I set up identical CMS configurations between regions, loaded up some beefy test databases and hit ’em hard with Apache JMeter traffic floods. I’m talking scaling up to thousands of concurrent sessions hammering homepages, deep links, dynamic pages – you name it! It was glorious watching resource monitor graphs spike. I’ll spoil the surprise – Delhi kept up without breaking a sweat. Can’t say that was universal…some regions struggled once visits ramped up.
Review results
After days of benchmarking, I aggregated test data spreads between the regions to find true performance deltas. Normalizing for hardware, Delhi dedicated servers showed measurable leads in key areas like I/O throughput, latency and ability to handle heavy traffic floods. Now real talk – not every metric was a blowout. Other regions had strengths too. But in most website-related workloads, Delhi was objectively faster to a significant degree. Color me impressed!
Final conclusions
Turns out those Delhi providers weren’t totally full of it with claims about speed! Now Delhi does have downsides like cost or risk of exotic hardware. But if you’re hunting pure performance for the money – be that web hosting, gaming, or app hosting – Delhi has the goods to deliver based on my testing. Not every workload showed massive gains mind you. But enough key web-centric ones did make Delhi servers worth consideration if speed is your need. Hopefully, these test findings help you make informed decisions if considering regions for your next dedicated server!
