Daan van Koelen discusses stray animals

Stray animals are a common issue that affects communities worldwide, including Caribbean. The root cause of this problem lies in the lack of regulations and support for pet owners who cannot afford to sterilize their animals. This, combined with a lack of intervention and a shortage of financial support, leads to an increasing population of stray dogs and cats.

Daan van Koelen, a driven individual who has taken it upon himself to tackle this problem head-on. He has established several charities that are dedicated to sterilization projects abroad and providing funding to prevent the birth of new stray animals. This is done in collaboration with local foundations, which form a network of support for his efforts.

Daan’s ultimate goal is to sterilize 1500 dogs and 1000 cats per year by setting up veterinarian stations three times a year. The funding for these efforts will come from the umbrella foundation that he has established, as well as from donors. The objective is to make a significant impact on the stray animal population in Caribbean and to serve as a model for other communities facing similar challenges.

In addition to sterilization efforts, Daan is also focused on securing support from companies, not just individuals. He is in negotiations with airlines to put dogs and cats on flights for adoption, which will streamline the health check-up and guidance process for foster animals. This will improve the welfare of stray animals and increase their chances of finding a permanent, loving home.

This is a massive undertaking, but Daan is determined to make it happen. He recognizes the hard work that is being done by existing foundations in Caribbean and wants to join forces with them to make an even greater impact. With support from the community and a clear perspective, Daan and his team of volunteers are poised to make a difference in the lives of stray animals in Caribbean and beyond.
