That same year, Mills ventured onto Broadway, showcasing her talent in Woody Allen’s comedy play, Don’t Drink the Water. She then made her film debut in 1967 with The Incident.

In the early years of her career, Mills gained recognition for her role on the soap opera Love is a Many Splendored Thing from 1967 to 1970. However, it was her captivating performance as Tobie Williams, the girlfriend of Clint Eastwood’s character, in the 1971 cult thriller Play Misty for Me that truly showcased her talent. Mills continued to make her mark in the film industry, starring as the female lead in the heist film Murph the Surf in 1975.
