What Happened to Jesse Freiburger?
Jesse Freiburger fought a brave battle against stomach cancer and passed away on July 2, 2023. His demise was announced through an emotional Facebook post by the Marshall Elementary PTO Page. Jesse, born on March 29, 1982, was 41 years old and left behind a lasting legacy of unwavering dedication to education and community service.
Honoring a Life of Service
On Thursday, July 6th from 3 PM to 8 PM a viewing to celebrate Jesse’s life and contribution will take place at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory located at 3860 Asbury Road. Family, friends and colleagues of Jesse are encouraged to pay their respects during this event.
A Special Celebration for Family and Close Friends
On July 7, 2023, at 10:30 AM, a special Celebration of Jesse’s Life will be held at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory. This ceremony is reserved for family members and close friends to reminisce and honor the remarkable life that Jesse led.
A Life Dedicated to Education
Jesse embarked on his educational career shortly after graduating Bellevue Public High School in 2000. From there he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s in health and physical education from Loras College before earning another master’s in sports administration from American Public University. He also obtained an administrative endorsement from Morningside University.
Throughout his 18-year tenure at Dubuque Community School District, Jesse exhibited a passion for education and student development. He initially worked as a physical education teacher at Sageville Elementary, and later as a student needs facilitator at Roosevelt Middle School, before achieving his dream role as the Principal at Marshall Elementary.

Jesse’s life was rich with affection for his family and a fervent passion for sports. Jesse was an ardent supporter of both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Iowa Hawkeyes, yet his world revolved around his beloved wife Heather and three children – Landen Hayden Mason being his source of greatest joy and pride.

Jesse had an infectious smile and warm, welcoming presence that instantly put people at ease, providing both students and colleagues with comfort and encouragement. His kindhearted nature allowed everyone around him to feel appreciated and comfortable – the essence of true generosity in any individual or society.
