Understanding Roman Numeral and their Application

The system for representing the numbers developed by the Romans around Five Hundred BC is termed the Roman Numeral system. After defeating the world known to the Romans, the numeral system they had adopted spread throughout Europe, where the chief manner for representing numbers endured Roman numerals.

The Roman Numeral is the additive and subtractive system in which the letters are used to designate certain base numbers and numbers in the arbitrary arrangement in the number system. A number that is represented by a symbol is called a numeral. They are widely denoted by utilising different combinations of symbols that inculcate English alphabets.

For example, Four in the Roman numeral is denoted by IV. It has wide supplications in labelling in many sectors, industrially and educationally. For instance, labelling as grade II or grade V as far as industrial usage is concerned. It is also widely used in designating the students as per their grades in school, likewise, Class I, Class II, Class III, and so on.

You can even translate and understand complex ones by learning the different numerals, such as the XXXIX roman numeral.

What Are Roman Numerals?

It can be termed as an ancient Number system that is still in use and widely accepted worldwide. In short, fixed positive numbers are used to represent the roman numeral alphabets. They may include I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, which represent 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, sequentially.

But, here, the thing that gets complicated for most of us is when the roman numerals cross Ten or x. After Ten comes the number Eleven, which is written in roman numerals as XI and followed by the numbers Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen to Twenty respectively, written as XII, XIII, XIV, XV and so on till we reach Twenty which is written as XX.

But, this is where things begin to get complicated, and the confusion starts. The question is, how to carry on with a long numeral? This complication is further simplified with the help of the following table given below:
