What To Expect from the New Call of Duty Game?
Call of Duty is possibly one of the most popular game franchises ever. The series has garnered a huge fanbase over the years with even the original games still proving popular. The community has also gained a reputation for leaking information ahead of the release, and the build-up to Modern Warfare 2’s launch is no different. Here’s everything we know, and everything that the developers have announced so far.
What Can We Expect from Modern Warfare 2?
The original Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009 and is widely recognised as one of the best games in the franchise; it was remastered in 2019 and received the same overwhelming response. Despite sharing a title with the original and reboot, this latest release isn’t another remake, but rather follows on from the 2019 release. This means that the setting will be similar and there will be plenty of recurring characters, but the missions and storyline will likely be refreshed.
The first trailer was released at the start of June, revealing the return of many fan-favourite characters like Captain Price and Sergeant MacTavish as well as a few new faces in the mix, fighting against helicopters, tanks and soldiers. The latest release in the series follows Taskforce 141 tackling the fallout of a US airstrike that assassinated a hostile foreign general. The trailer didn’t feature any real gameplay, but the in-game footage was enough to get fans hugely excited for what was to come.
What has Activision said?
In line with previous releases both Activision, the publisher, and Infinity Ward, the developer, have been incredibly quiet. Most fans are used to the fact that they won’t get much more than official artwork and a trailer before the end of June. Following the previous editions’ release calendars, the latest instalment will also be released in October. Activision confirmed that the game is scheduled for release on 28th October 2022.
As with previous releases, Modern Warfare 2 will have an open beta available across all platforms, which players can get access to by pre-ordering the game. Crucially, if you’re a PlayStation gamer you’ll get access to the beta up to 5 days before everyone else.
What Has Been Leaked So Far?
Infinity Ward is no stranger to leaks, and the latest release is no different. In fact, part of the trailer was leaked on the morning that the full-length version was due to be released. Gaming fans tend to look forward to big new releases such as Call of Duty, so gaming websites and blogs will be keen to be the ones to publically release the information first. Of course, this does sometimes lead to misinformation being leaked, but what we know about the Call of Duty Game so far includes what platforms will be supported by the release.
One of the big questions that surrounded the latest release was which platforms would be supported, as Activision were slow to announce this. A recent leak detailed pre-order bundles, and suggestions that Modern Warfare 2 will include a “cross-gun version”, so it’s likely that PS4 and Xbox One will still be supported, alongside PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X.
While it’s a long way off at the moment, one of the biggest leaks suggests what’s to come in 2023. The report came from one of the most prominent sources in the community, Ralph Valve. Ralph Valve said that Activision and Infinity Ward were working on something big that had been in development in some shape or form for almost 5 years. The report described the 2023 release as an add-on to Modern Warfare 2. If the leak is to be believed then we can expect an open-world experience that continues the story from the main game’s campaign. The add-on will tell more of the backstory of modern characters, give new quests and incorporate PvP events.
Are Fans Excited?
Another big talking point is the inspiration that the developer has drawn from the ever-popular Escape from Tarkov game. Players will have to work together across larger maps to find loot and avoid rival teams in order to get their treasure home safely. Given that Tarkov was such a runaway success it’s likely that we’ll see more developers drawing from this model in upcoming releases, but it’ll be exciting to see what spin Infinity Ward has put on it.
Gamers across the world are excited for the next Call of Duty game, and can’t wait to get wins on the battlefield similar to those you can get at a fast withdrawal casino. The people behind the scenes at Call of Duty are generally tight-lipped when it comes to game releases and what to expect – helping to build anticipation from fans about what could be and what they could be looking forward to.
As usual, there hasn’t been much to tell so far. Infinity Ward is annoyingly great and controls the flow of information, and even leakers haven’t been able to tell us much. That doesn’t mean that they won’t slowly drip us with information to keep people interested, after all, it’s great for driving traffic to their own platforms in advance of the game being released.
Once it is released you can be sure that gamers will be quick to share any information they discover while playing the game and as usual, the community will undoubtedly be keen to share their opinions on the game too! Over recent years there have been a number of games that the gaming community have found disappointing through lack of quality gameplay and features and it certainly gets tongues wagging on internet forums. This is something that the Call of Duty game developers will be keen to avoid – and could be one of the reasons why there has so far been very little officially confirmed about the new game release. However, we do know the game is on its way and that is enough to get gamers excited – For now, it’s time to watch the Reddit threads and the clock.
