What to Know Before Signing a Contract with a Personal Injury Lawyer

Have you ever been injured before? If you have, then you will know that some injuries can be someone else’s fault. Like a car accident or getting injured at work.

With those injuries, you may need a personal injury lawyer for these personal injuries that you have obtained. You’ll need them to help win lawsuits and fight medical bills that you will obtain.

There are a few things that you should know before signing anything or hiring anyone. You need to know how long your contract is going to be, how many cases your possible lawyer has, and can they give you a list of former clients.

Length Of Contract

The length of your contract can be important to know when hiring a lawyer. Longer contacts can be concerning when they are listed with 10 pages of every possible scenario. It’s almost like you will feel like the lawyers are playing games with you.

A lengthy contract can reinforce a feeling of distrust that people may already have for lawyers. That is why it is better to keep the contracts short, if your attorney uses any at all.

Sometimes, a meeting with a handshake can be all you need to really know that they are trying to help. These personal interactions with a one-page detailed contract can help to reinforce the trusting bond between a lawyer and their client.

Number Of Cases

The number of cases that your possible lawyer has can be a deciding factor when looking for a lawyer. Some larger law firms tend to take on so many cases that they can’t handle all of their clients.

That would include your case as well. Your case may end up on the shelf temporarily or it may not get the proper attention that it needs to be resolved. If a law firm’s team has limited staff and takes on a large number of cases, then they are not putting their fullest capacity into the cases that need them.

You as a client should look for a firm that keeps their case list short at a given time. That firm taking on a specific number of cases will allow the lawyers that work there to give their fullest attention to the cases that they are currently working on.

If your lawyers aren’t able to represent the other clients that they have taken on due to there being too many cases, then how are they going to take care of your case?

List Of Former Clients

You should ask potential lawyers that you are going to hire if they can provide a list of a few clients that they have taken on in the past. This essentially acts as references that you can speak with to determine how the lawyer might handle your case.

You can compare the past client’s experiences with how your case might go if you were to hire that lawyer. This will help you filter through some of the options of lawyers that will waste your time or play games.

If the firm can not provide a list of clients for you, then you should look for other firm options. Not providing a list for you shows that they have poor management skills with their records and client management.
