Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on August 3, 1926 in Queens, New York – known for his smooth yet romantic ballads – Tony Bennett became one of the world’s most revered and esteemed musicians during his long musical career that started back in 1950s – producing timeless hits like “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” and “The Good Life”.
Despite the evolving music industry, Bennett’s influence remained consistent. Over seven decades, Tony amassed many honors – multiple Grammy awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being among them – as an accomplished painter, showing work at galleries worldwide. His Later Years and Battle with Alzheimer’s
Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016. However, despite this he continued performing and performing until his passing at 96 on July 21, 2023.
Tony Bennett and Susan Benedetto: A Love Story
Bennett’s third wife, Susan Benedetto, played a significant role in his life. They met in 1985 and married in 2007. Their love story, characterized by their mutual passion for music and arts, remained an inspiring tale in the music industry.
Susan, born in 1966, was a devoted Tony Bennett fan before they even met. She first encountered Tony backstage after sending him a fan letter when she was 19. Before their marriage on June 21, 2007 they kept their affair discreet for many years before finally exchanging vows in New York.
As her husband battled Alzheimer’s and drug abuse issues from the 1970s onward, Susan served as his primary caretaker and source of strength and support.
Tony Bennett openly credited Susan for her unwavering support, bringing a fresh perspective to his life and filling it with joy.
Before marrying Susan, Tony Bennett had two previous marriages and fathered four children with his first wife, Patricia Beech. He married Sandra Grant in 1971 and had two more children. Although they separated in 1979, their divorce was only finalized in 2007, just before Tony’s wedding to Susan.
Susan Benedetto: A Philanthropic Force
Susan Benedetto grew up on New York City’s Upper East Side before attending Fordham University to study art history before working at The Metropolitan Museum of Art until her untimely passing in 2010.
Benedetto is widely respected for her charitable efforts and founding of Exploring the Arts With Tony in 1999 – an organization which funds arts education programs in public high schools throughout the US.
Under her direction, Exploring the Arts has provided over $3 Million in grants to schools nationwide for developing innovative arts programs which have inspired thousands of children and adolescents to discover a love for music, dance and theater.
Benedetto has also made significant contributions to several philanthropic and charitable organizations outside Exploring the Arts. She serves on the boards for Bennett Family Foundation as well as being involved with Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Susan Benedetto has dedicated herself to positively altering lives through art education and aid for underserved youth. Her tireless efforts have changed countless lives for good; now, others aspire to follow in her footsteps and do just as she did!
