List of Essential Products For Product Videography And Photography

Even though many professional videographers and photographers shoot product videos or photos in ugly and boring rooms, you don’t want your finished videos or photos to look anything less than perfect. Let’s look at some of the most important things to bring to a product videography and photoshoot. Keep on reading…

1. Reflector:

A 5-in-1 reflector is the most important thing to bring to a product video or photo shoot. On set, reflectors are like multi-tools because they can do a lot of different things, such as:

  1. Reflecting Light
  2. Makeshift Background
  3. Scattering Light
  4. Flagging Light
  5. Absorbing Lighting

You can change your product’s appearance with reflectors when you take a picture of it. There are a lot of how-to guides for making your own reflectors, but none of them are useful.

2. Soft Box:

There are times and places to use bright lights. This is neither the time nor the place for product videos or product photography in Toronto. If you take many pictures of things, you need a softbox. A soft box makes it much easier to light a scene. It will soften shadows and get rid of any other things that might be distracting. You can keep two soft boxes around your object, one to the right and the other on the left, and then add smaller lights to style the scene.

3. Tripod:

You can’t say enough about how important a good tripod is. A fluid-head tripod usually works best, but you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good set of sticks. If you take the time to do your research, there are a lot of good tripods that won’t break the bank. Magnus is one of my favorite brands. Even though their tripods only last three to five years, they are very smooth, especially since they have friction heads.

4. C-Stands:

When making product videos, C-stands are very important. Even more than most commercial work, a product video will need subtle changes in lighting. You may need to add more backlight or reflectors to your subject. You might need six or more C-Stands on product videography to hold up the background, lights, and reflectors. When you get to the set, make sure you have plenty.

5. Macro Lens:

You can get really close to your subject with a macro lens because it has a very short minimum focus distance. As you can imagine, this is a must if you are making a video for a product. A 100mm f/2.8 is the market’s most famous and common macro lens. This lens, which is made by more than one brand, is great for taking pictures of small things.

Even though it’s not a macro lens, you should use a 50mm prime if your subject is a bit bigger. This will give you a wide shot without making your subject look funny to the camera. And to be honest, you should have a 50mm prime lens in your bag anyway.

6. Camera:

A DSLR camera is mostly used for taking still photos, but it can also make great videos. There are a lot of settings on them, but try not to get too confused. You’ll probably only use a couple of these at each shoot.

Recommendation DSLR Camera:

The Canon EOS Rebel T7 is good.

Best: Canon EOS Rebel T8i

Better: Canon EOS Rebel SL3

Many DSLR cameras come with a wide lens, so you should also buy a 50mm portrait lens. This makes the background softer, which makes them great for pictures of people. This is a must-have if you film a lot of interviews. Since we recommend Canon DSLR cameras, you should get the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, which works with every Canon EOS camera.
