Samsung Galaxy S21 price, specifications, release date and everything we know so far

The possible price of the Galaxy S21 has remained one of the most important unknowns around the next top-of-the-range smartphone of the South Korean giant, but thanks to a new round of leaks we have been able to start profiling it, and now everything seems to indicate that we could take a surprise, I explain why.

As our regular readers will remember, most of the information and leaks we had seen said that the price of the Galaxy S21, in all its versions, was going to be identical to that of the Galaxy S20. It made sense, especially after seeing that Apple also decided to keep prices with the release of the iPhone 12, but a new round of rumors points in the opposite direction and ensures that Samsung will lower the price of the Galaxy S21.

Since this information has no official confirmation we cannot grant it absolute validity, but the truth is that it makes a lot of sense, since sales of the Galaxy S20 series have not finished meeting Samsung’s expectations, and the arrival of the iPhone 12 equipped with 5G has to escalate the war in the smartphone sector.

With that context, it is clear that launching a Galaxy S21 with a lower price than that of the Galaxy S20 could be a totally successful move by Samsung, as it would improve the value of that terminal and could generate greater interest from consumers.

What could be the price of the Galaxy S21?

We have two great options, they could end up costing the same as the Galaxy S20, or a little less than these. Personally, I think the second theory has a lot of weight, and that it’s likely to end up being fulfilled, especially since, as I said earlier, it would allow Samsung to compete more effectively with Apple’s new iPhone 12s.

  • Possible price of the Galaxy S21 5G: this would be the standard model, and would position between $850 and $899, which would mean a significant reduction from the $999 cost of the Galaxy S20 5G.
  • Possible price of the Galaxy S21+ 5G: one rung will be above the previous one, and will cost approximately between $1,049 and $1,099. Again we would have a noticeable downgrade against the Galaxy S20+ 5G, which hit the market at a price of $1,199.
  • Possible price of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G: it will be Samsung’s top of the range, and could cost between $1,249 and $1,299. For comparison purposes, I remind you that the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G was priced at $1,399.

How will Samsung reduce the price of its new smartphones? Some sources have said that sacrificing finish quality in the standard model, which will come with built-in plastic and metal instead of glass and metal, like the Galaxy S20 5G, but is not confirmed. As for the other models, I imagine the South Korean company will have been able to adjust costs and supply contracts to reduce the costs associated with producing its new smartphones, although it could also reduce the price of the Galaxy S21 by accepting a smaller revenue margin. You know, selling more quantity less is sometimes a better option than selling less at a higher price.

Design and possible specifications of the Galaxy S21

We’re already clear about the price theme of the Galaxy S21 in all its versions, so we’re ready to go into talking about its design and possible specifications.

Externally, Samsung might surprise us with a new rear camera module that would integrate in a much more natural and stylized way into the Design of the Galaxy S21. As for the chassis, there are two currents that do not agree, one that points to a clear continuity in front of the Galaxy S20 and therefore suggests the use of a rounded frame and the maintenance of a slight curvature, and another that indicates the use of a completely flat frame and a finish similar to that seen on the iPhone 5s, and that has “reborn” on the iPhone 12.

Those two possibilities are on the table, and they have followers and detractors. To me, the truth is that I am more convinced by the classic finish with the curvature and the rounded touch in the frame, but it is a simple matter of taste.

As far as hardware-level features are concerned, the three Galaxy S21s will have the same common base, centered around the SoC(Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100), and from there they will differ in aspects as important as a screen, memory, storage, and camera configuration. This is all we know so far.

Release Date and availability of the Galaxy S21

Samsung has not yet announced the celebration of the next “Unpacked” event, dedicated to the presentation of the new Galaxy S21, but according to the latest information this will take place on January 14, that is, a month earlier than usual, since the South Korean company used to present its new smartphones in February.

If the date we’ve given you is confirmed, Galaxy S21s are likely to be available at the end of January, although pre-purchases should open right at the same time as their presentation.

We don’t think Samsung is going to have trouble meeting the demand for its new smartphones, but it will be interesting to see if, in the end, the rumors are over that they will come without a charger and without headphones. The truth is that it is not a crazy idea, especially because it could be linked to that possible drop in the price of the Galaxy S21 in all its versions, but we must be cautious since there is nothing official yet.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake to dispense with the charger and headphones. The path that Apple took with the iPhone 12, and which extended to the entire iPhone family, does not seem good to me even for the image of the company, however much they want to “make it up” with the idea of sustainability and respect for the environment, nor for the user, who ends up paying the same for a smartphone that lacks “basic” accessories.
