Tony Mowbray was an English footballer known for his defensive prowess during his professional career from Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich Town clubs. Born November 22 1963 in Saltburn England – where Mowbray began playing professional football beginning his professional journey at Middlesbrough back in 1982!

Transition to Management

Mowbray made an immediate transition after retiring as a player to coaching at Ipswich Town before taking his first managerial post with Hibernian FC of the Scottish Premier League – where his inaugural season earned him recognition by Scottish Football Writers’ Association with their Manager of the Year award! Later moving onto West Bromwich Albion where his leadership helped win them their inaugural Football League Championship title back in 2008.

Mowbray then took charge of Middlesbrough before joining Celtic for a short spell before taking up Blackburn Rovers as manager in 2017. Following their relegation from the Championship to League 1, Mowbray led his side back up the table through solid performances in league play and subsequent success at domestic cup tournaments.

In August 2022, Mowbray was appointed head coach of Sunderland.
