Top Ways to Improve Your Internet Speed

Slow internet is the bane of modern life. With so many applications, meetings, and recreational outlets reliant on being connected in some way, when this connection is slow it can put a stop to everything. Buffering, lagging, and refusal to download are just three of the main problems that come with a subpar internet speed output. Fortunately, there are some straightforward steps you can take at home to make life easier and hopefully boost your speed to where you want it to be.

The First Job: Run a Speed Test

Before you get started on implementing solutions, you have to get to know the problem. Try to test your internet speed at various points in the day with a reliable testing method which you can find online. This should give you a clear picture of when there are problems which you can then line up with usage practices and so on to gain a deeper understanding.

Move Your Router

Sometimes, it really is as simple as putting your router somewhere else. If you are working from a home office, for instance, see if there is a place you can plug your box in close to your desk and tech setup. By doing this, there is a shorter distance to travel for the connection and you will be more in range so things don’t have to stretch as thinly.

Update the Firmware On Your Router

Routers are devices that need updating just like your computer. If you haven’t done so for a while, or ever, run a diagnostic and update the firmware. This tends to fix glitches in the operational framework and generally helps improve the outputs. You could try a reset before going down the upgrade route too.

Try an Adblocker

Adblockers are built into most anti-virus and protective software, but if you don’t have this then investing in just an adblocker will be a good step forward. They don’t necessarily improve your connection for things like accessing cloud or virtual drive data, but they definitely speed up your internet browsing which can be useful in its own right.

Switch Providers

Sometimes switching providers is the only option to boost your internet speed. There are always multiple options in your area and with a little research you should be able to find a company that can meet your need profile. Moving doesn’t have to be complicated either. If you get the right ISP, they will be able to take care of all the difficult parts for you and make the transition a completely smooth ordeal.

Try an Ethernet Cable

If you are having no luck and waiting for an upgrade to your ISP, there is an interim option of testing out an ethernet cable connection instead of depending on your wireless one. Sometimes it improves the speed and creates an accelerated effect which makes things a little better and faster.

Improving your internet speed can sometimes be a quick job. Trying a few simple tweaks might just give you the boost you’ve been searching for. In other cases, it may require something more drastic like switching ISP. Regardless, speed is non-negotiable when it comes to your internet.
