The NBA has more talent now than I can remember. While many teams have multiple big name players, it seems most teams have at least one top level player. But what player looks to be the most promising entering the 2022 season? I am going to give my take on that in this article. Obviously, there are many to choose from, but I am going to look at a player that is not only already established, but who has already proven himself to be one of the best in the NBA.
Entering just his 5th season, Luka Doncic is arguably the best young player we have in the game. Luka has already showcased his elite talent and ability to play basketball. A few accolades he has already received are NBA Rookie of the Year, All-NBA Team and NBA All Rookie Team. A player of this caliber has bigger goals ahead of him such as the league MVP and NBA Finals Champion. With several big name players ahead of him achieving at least one of these, Luka will have some extra motivation to take his game to the next level. It was a good start getting to the Western Conference Finals last season, but Luka was questioned on his desire to win and passion after that series. Losing Jalen Brunson has also been a topic talked about a lot and people have seemed to close his window as if he doesn’t have more to show us. Keep in mind they did take out the number 1 seed in the West during that playoff run. I think we can expect Luka to have an enormous season and I could see him winning the MVP this season. If the Mavericks do take a step back as a team, Luka winning the MVP would certainly give him an even higher status in the NBA world. Luka has ranked fourth, sixth, and fifth in MVP voting so far.
As great as Luka has been, he still has much to improve on in his game. Luka certainly looked good in International play. This gives me extremely high hopes for him being the most promising player of the 2022 season. If Luka improves on some of the parts of his game he needs to, then he will be ready to take it to the next level this season. His defense is one element in his game that has been highly criticized. While he may never be an elite defensive player, all he needs to do is make that a priority of not being a weakness in his game. There are not many players that have his offensive skill set, but Luka can find parts of his offensive game to improve on and throughout International play his body tone seems to be pretty solid. Luka looks a lot more fit than usual and this will allow him to do things in his game he may not have been able to. Getting worn down won’t be as much of a factor now.
With Luka being in great shape entering this season, I expect Luka to get off to an amazing start this season. Most of the players that are ahead of him in terms of their all around game are in much better shape than Luka. This is one of the reasons we have seen him looking so tired at times. Yes, he definitely carries the load for the team so that definitely makes a difference. The fact is though, Luka being in shape now makes him even more of a threat than ever before entering this season. Let’s also add in the extra motivation. Luka has heard all of the naysayers talk about these issues along with losing a key player in Jalen Brunson. Nobody feels this team has a chance after just being in the Western Conference Finals last season. This combination also helps Luka being the most promising player entering the 2022 NBA Season.
The NBA has an enormous amount of talent entering this season. Rookies, 2nd and 3rd year players all still looking to make their mark in the NBA. Both conferences seem well balanced and that is all because of the amount of talent in today’s game. While it was a tough choice picking one player, Luka has only played 4 seasons himself and I just can’t think of any young player with more upside than Luka to enter this season alone. Luka is not the frontrunner to win MVP this season either, so I would not hesitate to sprinkle some money on him to win the MVP this season.
