Homefire – Everything You Need to Know About the Clearskies Scheme

To know whether your device is energy efficient and environmentally friendly can sometimes be difficult to ascertain. That was until a new accreditation was formed to put the concerns of customers to rest.

So, what exactly is the Clearskies Scheme? Is it important that my device holds this certification?

This article will tell you all you need to know about the scheme and what it does for you: the customer.

What is the Clearskies Scheme?

The Clearskies Scheme is an independent accreditation that certifies an appliance or device, at the very least, meets the minimum requirements when it comes to efficiency and low emission output.

When a device is Clearskies certified, it means that it has been independently verified and that it’s performing in an environmentally friendly manner.

From January 2022, products like stoves and heating appliances that are being made in the UK have had to conform to the Clearskies Scheme by law.

There are varying degrees of Clearskies accreditation, ranging from 2-5. All devices with a Clearskies 3 rating or above are DEFRA-exempt, which means their emission levels have been deemed low enough for use within a Smoke Control Area.

The higher the classification, the higher the degree of efficiency that the device performs.

Why is the Clearskies Scheme important?

Firstly, it offers clarity to customers who are looking to reduce their impact on the environment as much as possible. Seeing this label attached to an appliance means your appliance is likely to be more environmentally friendly than one without such certification.

A stove or heating appliance that is environmentally friendly is far more likely to be safer for the health of users too, emitting few harmful substances into the immediate atmosphere.

It’s not just for the consumer, however. It is hoped that the introduction of this law will be the platform needed to manufacture products that are increasingly harmless. Legislation such as this is crucial to maintain the ongoing efforts made in the fight against environmental damage.

This shift in attitude does wonders for the image of companies, as it shows consumers that they care about the same things they do, meaning it will likely create customer loyalty among those with environmental concerns.

Homefire offers many products that are sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly.

What does it measure?

Included within the measured output of an appliance are the levels of Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter, Organic Gaseous Compounds, and Nitrogen Oxide, as per the Clearskies explanation

Depending on the measured output, each appliance will be listed in a Clearskies category accordingly.

The scheme also covers appliances that run on mineral fuels, such as fossil fuels, despite their decline in popularity over the years.

Summary

Any heating appliance that is made in the UK since January 2022 must conform to the new regulations in place. It puts the customer at ease that their purchase is an environmentally friendly choice.
