There are 18 ranks in CS:GO, Silver 1 being the lowest and Global Elite being the highest one. The sole purpose of rank is to help the game determine who will play against who and thus make matchups more interesting. It wouldn’t be interesting if a noob plays against a veteran where he stands no chance of winning. Therefore, players get ranked based on their skill level, and as they get better, they usually rank up. But the question is, how to rank up in CS:GO? In order to answer that question, we first need to see how the ranking system works.
ELO Points
The way the ranking system works in CS:GO is via ELO points. It is a scoring system, and the more ELO points you have, the higher your rank will be. Unfortunately, ELO is undisclosed, and it cannot be accessed by any player. In other words, you can’t know exactly how many ELO points you have, but you can come to a close assumption based on your current rank and latest performances.
What Affects Your Rank?
Every new player has to win initial 10 competitive matches in order for the game to estimate his ELO and provide him with rank status. So, once you get a rank, it is impossible to jump through ranks. You will have to rank up slowly, one rank at a time.
Most new players believe that their rank will increase if they perform well. That is not completely true. Your sole performance does affect your rank, but it is not enough. The main thing that affects a rank is win/lose ratio. You have to win games to rank up. Sometimes it can even happen on the draw if you performed really well, but in general, most of the players only rank up after the games they have won. So, it would help if you had plenty of consecutive wins in order for your ELO to increase and for you to rank up. Therefore, you shouldn’t focus on frags, be a team player and always try to do what is best for the team. To do so, you will, of course, need a premade team.
Teamwork
The first thing you need to do is to find teammates. You need a full 5-man team with which you can communicate clearly and train together. Playing as a team is always better as you can improve together, learn new strategies and build chemistry. Every team member has to have a role; someone needs to be the shot caller, the so-called in-game leader. You can’t all just do what you want. There must be some hierarchy in order to succeed. You should also decide who should be the AWPer, support, lurker, and who is the best riffler to be an entry fragger. In time, you will know exactly what your position is on which map and what you can expect from your teammates.
On lower ranks, the chances are you will encounter 5 randoms who play together for the first time. If they are the same rank as you, there is no chance you can lose against them. You will have much better communication and teamwork, which will eventually lead to a victory.
Learn From Professionals
Before you start any training, you should learn how to do things properly first. The best way to learn anything is to learn from the best ones out there, which are professional players in this case. You can watch their old video compilations, but it is always better to watch live Twitch streams of professional matchups. It would be best if you and your whole team watched those matches together. Training
Of course, probably the most important thing on your rank up journey is your skill. You need to get better at CS:GO and increase your skill level. You wouldn’t be able to hold that rank, and you will lose it eventually. So, you must learn aim, positioning, movement, smokes, and flashes, one at a time.
Aim, positioning, and movement can be learned along the way as you play, but smokes and flashes aren’t fun, and it will take some dedication. You must learn lineups for both smokes and flashes on every single map that you play. For example, there isn’t a single LEM player that does not know all three smokes for A site on Mirage. It is just impossible to rank up that high if you didn’t learn it. So, make sure to learn them as fast as possible.
