Batwoman Season 2 Will Address What Happened To Kate Kane

The second season of Batwoman will address the departure of Kate Kane from Ruby Rose and will also feature Ryan Wilder from Jevicia Leslie on the series.

Before Ryan Wilder steps in as the new titular heroine, the second season of Batwoman will address the departure of its former protagonist Kate Kane (Ruby Rose).

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Batwoman is a CW superhero crime drama that shares continuity with the network’s other television series in the Arrowverse. Batwoman premiered its first season in October, and followed Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane on her quest to become Gotham City’s new symbol of hope as a replacement for the late Batman. However, the second season of the series will present a very different story because Rose has left the series and a new actress takes her place.

Batwoman season 1 was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. The CW had chosen the series for an order of 22 episodes, but due to the virus, it concluded with only its 20th episode. Given that Batwoman had already been renewed for a second season, fans were hoping the series would complete its abandoned story once it returned. But in May 2020, Ruby Rose announced her departure from the show, putting the new season in limbo. After Rose’s departure, the creators of Batwoman decided not to modify her role. Instead, they brought Javicia Leslie from God Friended Me on board to play the character, Ryan Wilder. While the new season will inevitably focus on its new heroine, it will also give fans some closure on the sudden departure of its former lead.

As revealed during Saturday’s DC Fan Dome, Batwoman season 2 will not ignore Kate Kane’s unexpected disappearance from the series. Showrunner Caroline Dries has assured fans that Kane will not be canceled and that her absence from the world of Batwoman will be explained. Dries has explained how the series will deal with Kane’s departure.

“We have two important stories this season when we get to season 2. The first is: Where is Kate? What happened to Kate? She is alive? Is she dead? Is she missing? Is fleeing? Are you captive? She is lost? All of these are huge mysteries that push us deep into the season. All of our characters are going to have different perspectives on it. Different conspiracy theories, different points of view, and it will create a lot of drama, mystery, tension, intrigue. It will be shocking, amazing and amazing ”.

While Kane’s absence is a major plot in the new season, the elemental premise centers around introducing Leslie’s Ryan Wilder as the new Batwoman. According to Dries, Ryan and his community have been institutionally marginalized from the beginning. As a consequence, Ryan has developed rebellion as a survival instinct. In the past, Ryan has gotten away with fighting the system. And she will continue to do so even as a savior of Gotham, although this time, Ryan will aim to help the entire community and not just herself.

In the wake of Rose’s departure in May, fans were naturally concerned about Batwoman’s treatment of Kate Kane and the unfinished arcs related to her. But Dries has made it clear that the heroine will not simply be ignored, but that her disappearance will be a crucial plot point in the new season. Given that there are so many theories about Kane’s character that will be depicted in Batwoman season 2, the showrunners likely haven’t ruled out the possibility of Kane’s return to the series. If the showrunners had intended to remove Kane’s character entirely, they would have confirmed that she was dead before introducing a new track. But since that hasn’t happened, Rose may be convinced to make a cameo in some special episodes.
